First your wife did not issue the restraining order. The court issued the restraining order. Violation of the restraining order is a misdemeanor. As I understand your question your wife went to court and requested the issuance of a domestic violence restraining order against you. This being the case the worst case would be for the court to issue a domestic violence restraining order against you. One of the requirements of domestic violence restraining orders, even the temporary order, is that you must sell or turn in all of the firearms in your possession and not own any firearms or ammunition for a firearm. You would not be sent to jail unless you violate the restraining order.

If the restraining order was issued by a criminal court, then you face the possibility of being put in jail, and ordered to pay a fine. If the hit caused deep bruising, a broken bone etc you could be looking at going to prison. You should take all documents that you have and consult with an attorney.
