Legal Question in Family Law in California

Wife's Ex has not paid child support for 3 years

Per subject. We do not know where he is living and he is killing my wife's credit score on a CC that was in both names. We did not care before, but if we have to take on his debt we want him to pay what he owes and keep paying what he owes. To clarify, he never asked for visitation so we were ok not getting the support.

Can we call a sheriff's office where he used to be and get his name on a ''list''?

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Wife's Ex has not paid child support for 3 years

You have a number of issues that need to be addressed.

First is child support. The ex has to pay pursuant to his income. A good lawyer has the resources to find almost anyone. Once he is found, a lawyer can help you prepare a petition for Family Court which could include a violation petition which could subject your x to numerous penalties such as loss of driving privileges etc.

You might be able to get all of your money back that he owes and be assured of a future income for your child.

You should also notify the credit card company that you want the card privileges stopped and that you are not going to be responsible for any future debt. This will cut off more debt, and cut your losses.

An action can be brought against him for payment of that debt, regardles of where he is.
