Legal Question in Family Law in California

We will be traveling out of the country shortly after getting married, there isn't enough time to get a new passport with my new name before we leave. My question is, what name do I put on the marriage license? Can I put my new name or do I have to put my maiden name and wait to change my name until after we get back? how does it work?

Who will know that you are now married? TSA looks at your passport and driver's license, the airline company you buy the ticket from looks at your credit card you use. None of them are going to look at your marriage license, so put whatever name you want on the license.

You don't use a marriage license to travel abroad.
