Legal Question in Family Law in California

Wills

My father has made his will out so that my niece his favorite (oldest of 19 grandchildren)gets 50% of the money once we sell out house. An the other 50% to be spilt between us five siblings. Can he do that? Or do we five have a right to stop his will. My mother has pasted away 2 yrs ago. So its just him alone. He is 83 years old.
