Legal Question in Family Law in California
Wondering about alimony in California. My husband was here and went back to Ohio (due to conflict with my dad, so he says, but he wasn't/isn't happy with me either). He makes 100K plus a year and I used to work for attorneys and do well, however, being 53 and not working in a regular office for 7 years, I make much less helping my folks with their ministry (which is why we came here). I feel it isn't right to up and leave my folks. My husband says he doesn't want me there but if I don't go back he will stop any form of maintenance and if I get attorney he will either quit his job or sit in jail or get a job paying minimal so I won't get very much. Anyway...it obviously is a long story, just wondering if they are favorable to alimony in California and if you know a percentage. no kids involved. No debts. Thanks.

The big issue that I see is whether the court has jurisdiction over your husband. The reason that I mention this is because if California does not have personal jurisdiction over your husband, they will not issue a spousal support order. There are many ways to get personal jurisdiction, such as serving him while he was present in the state, his consent, or minimum contacts with California.
