Legal Question in Family Law in California

workers compensation/divorce

I received a settlement after being injured while on duty on the police force. Now, Im considering divorce. Will I have to split that settlement with my ex-wife? We've been married for 15 years.

Re: workers compensation/divorce

typically an injury based on work that was performed during marriage would be considered community property. If it was based on work that is for future earnings it might be considered separate earnings. A consultation with an attorney may prove helpful for you.

As always please consult an attorney prior to taking any legal action. Good luck.
