Legal Question in Family Law in California

how to write out legal decision that was quoted by judge in court

I'm a court reporter. Took hearing in court for the first time in a long time. The

judge was citing a case and said, ''It's a 1976 case, 63 Cal Ed 3rd 705.''

My question for you is, do I type it 63 Cal. Ed. Third 705 or 63 Cal Ed 3rd 705 or

do I use commas in between??

Thank you.

What you probably heard was "63 Cal.App.3d 705". This refers to a California Court of Appeal decision. California Supreme Court decisions are in the format "xx Cal. xx". See "A Uniform System of Citation" aka The Blue Book, available online, from a law school bookstore, or at the reference desk of the courthouse's law library.
