Legal Question in Family Law in California

too many years

I have been separted for 13 years and i would like to legally be divorced. My x-husband lives in virginia. I don't know his address or phone #, but i do know his parents address and #. What papers do i need to fill out and file? Can i do a dissolution of marriage? There are no children, no property, no nothing to fight over. I do not and have not used his name for the last 13 years. i'm totally lost on how to get this accomplished, your help is greatly appreceiated!

You can file your dissolution and sent the summons and serve him by a notice and acknowledgement of receipt, which could be sent to his parents. They would probably forward it to him. If they will not assist there are lots of services on the internet that will locate people for a reasonable fee, sometimes $30 - $50. If all else fails you can publish the summons and petition in the newspaper. If your local court has a facilitator they may be able to help. Good Luck, Pat McCrary

You may file in the County where you reside. It does not matter where your husband resides. He will need to be served, but this should not be dificult because you know where his parents are. This should be a relatively easy uncontested divorce. If you need any assistance please do not hesitate to call.
