Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

Breastfeeding Limiting Work Duties

I am due in August and am trying to work out the details of my maternity leave. I work for a large corporation. Currently my work duties include a rotational ''on-call'' week in which there is much stress and I can/am paged at all hours of the night. I am supposed to get up and log onto our computer servers and fix computer problems. The ''on-call'' duties were much lighter when I frist took this position. Gradually they have added more. Including working 13 days in a row (the week you are on-call) There are also additional responsibilities for this person during the week causing much stress. We do get compensated about $100 extra for that week.

Here is my question: I really don't mind working hard at all; however, because there is much stress and sleep deprivation during this ''on-call'' week, I feel it would be in my and my baby's best medical interest if I didn't resume ''on-call'' duties until after I quit breastfeeding. First, I can't imagine trying to breastfeed in the middle of the night while at the same time the pager going off and trying to work on the computer at the same time. Second, I fear the stress would decrease milk production.

Can I request reduced after hour work duties whild breastfeeding?

Re: Breastfeeding Limiting Work Duties

California has very strict regulations regarding pregnancy leave, and considers it to be a "disability".

You are not required to work those types of hours, or that kind of a situation, or to work at all during this time.

You tell them what you are willing to do.
