Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

Caring for Elderly Father

Two weeks ago my brother dropped our father off without any warning. He has Parkinsons and Pulsy. I cant leave him alone. Since I have been employed for only 8 months with my company, they refused me leave. They didnt fire me and I did not quit. Is there anyway I can be supplemented for the income I am loosing? And if I quit, can I collect unemployment?

Re: Caring for Elderly Father

You are not eligible for family medical leave if you haven't been with the employer for a year. You may be eligible for unemployment benefits if you can show you had no other options but to quit to care for your father.

Also check with your local social services agency to see if additional services and assistance is available.
