Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

Common Law Marrage

In reading through the Family Medical Leave Act Booklet it states that a Common Law spouse is considered ''Family''. As long as the State they reside in allows for ''Common Law Marrages''. Is California one of those states?

There is no Common Law Marriage in California, however California does recognize Common Law Marriages that would be considered valid according to another States laws.
