Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

Intermitent Family Leave

My mother has been ill for nearly a year. During this time she has bha it was causing aeen in and out of the hospital. I am currently caring for her at home and I am her soul support system. Often I have needed to come into work about ten to thirty minutes late in order to make certain her needs are taken care of. My boss recently wrote a reprimand for this behavior. This is the first time he has ever made mention of the fact that it was causing a problem . In fact he has signed my hourly time sheet every two weeks without complaint. I give up my breaks and often work through lunch. I need to know how to handle this so I can legally apply for the additional time.

Thanks

Re: Intermitent Family Leave

You need to take the initiative and contact the appropriate Human Resource person for your company and determine if you are eligible for family leave. If so, ask for it and work out a work schedule that can accomodate your assisting your mother. Bear in mind, you may only take a cumulative 12 weeks off. After that, there is no guarantee your job will be secure. If you are not eligible for family leave, the company can write you up for lateness or absence, even though your being late may be for good reasons.
