Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

Do I qualify?

I had my child on October 16th and my disability lasts until Nov.20th. Then because of the nature of my career, I was on vacation until January 2nd, 2003. Do I qualify for the 12 weeks under the Family Medical Leave Act to take care of my baby for that time? I am a teacher and work 4 months then I am off for 2 months. Also, is the 12 weeks in addition to disability?

Family leave may be added to the pregnancy related disability leave and it sounds as though you would qualify. You must request it. Contact your Human Resource department and advise them of your request and work out the details. They should provide you with a written notice advising you of your rights and obligations.
