Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

Taking leave for family illness.

Can my boss terminate or put me on unpaid suspension if I am attending to my childs serious illness? What are my options? Finding another family member for care is not accetable.

Re: Taking leave for family illness.

You may be protected under the state of federal medical family leave acts if you meet certain qualifications. For example, you must have been employed full time for at least a year, and the company must have at least 50 employees within a 75 mile radius of where you work. If you qualify, the company must allow you up to 12 weeks off to care for your child, as long as certain conditions are met. However, if they were intending for terminate you for other legitimate reasons, this could complicate matters. You should have your situation reviewed by a labor law attorney near your home.
