Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
Is an answer to a complaint due thirty days after signing a Notice and Acknowledgment of Receipt - Civil, or is an answer to a complaint due thirty days after the filing of the same Acknowledgment of Receipt?
Thanks for any help!

One has 20 days after the date the plaintiff mails it to sign and return the executed Notice and Acknowledgment. It's deemed served upon its execution by the defendant (or counsel). Then the defendant has 30 days thereafter to respond to the complaint.

In plain english, once the Notice and Acknowledgement of Receipt is signed, the defendant has 30 days to answer. If the answer is filed, N and A of R never actually has to be filed at all.
