Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

i bent over to help and got screwed

i sold my old car to this guy on a friday night, then he wrecks it on sunday morning and calls me for help. he was driving w/out insurance. title was not transfered over yet. he gave all my info to the person who hit him. i agreed to help him by making a claim w/ my insurance to try to fix his car. car was considered a total lost. now he's suing me for his loss. how can i prepare myself in court? what kind of lawyer should i look into for this situation? it's a small claims court. thanks in advance!

Parties aren't allowed to bring lawyers to represent them in small claims court. You may want to consult with a civil litigator beforehand, though, to get some pointers as to how to present your case. Try to have this appointment as soon as possible, since following some of her suggestions may take some time.

Good luck.

Hello. If you were still insured at the time of the incident and there is a claim/lawsuit against you, you should submit it to your insurance company, as one of the important duties of your insurance company is defending you in a legal action where you or your driver is likely to be liable.
