Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I bought a car from a dealer that was a 2000 within a month the car was breaking down and needed an engine replacement. the dealer decided to put me in another car wihich was a 1998 but i had to sign a new loan agreement make another down payment and basically start all over again. I got no credit applied to the new car Can they do that? is there anything i can do about it?
