Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Bringing up an issue in a deposition, does it become public information?

I was involved in a deposition separate from an issue I had with the same company involving a different person. The person that was involved in my issue, was tape recorded threatening me with the loss of my job because of a health reason. The attorney for the defendant brought up the issue of the tape recording, and threatened me with legal action. (Remember, this had nothing to do with what I was depositioned for)

Can this tape recording now be introduced as public information even though the contents were not discussed?

Re: Bringing up an issue in a deposition, does it become public information?

Your question is unclear. A deposition is not public information. The deposition transcripts are generally not filed with the court but are kept in the offices of the attorneys involved in the case. Although there is no law preventing the attorneys from disclosing the contents of the deposition to anybody they want to, they are not public information in the sense that somebody not involved with the case would have any way of finding out that the deposition even exists.
