Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Broken Computer Sold To Me

I live in North Carolina, and bought a computer from a company in California.

I paid about $900 for a computer. The company did not send what I asked for, and what they did send was broken in several ways.

I talked to an employee, Steve, who was responsible for fixing my problem. He admitted that the company had failed, and that they would correct their error. However, they would never send me a new computer. They wanted me to send the computer back to them, which I could not do, because I needed to use it to take notes in class.(Even though the computer was messed up, I could still use it to take notes.)

Finally, to force the situation to be right, even though I knew it would take more money on my part, Steve and I worked out an agreement: I would buy a new computer, and then when I got the new one, I would send the broken one back. Well, I paid about $1200, and never heard anything else. I kept calling, and never got answers. Eventually, the company's telephone number was disconnected.

I was pretty mad, so I called Steve at home (since he gave me his number earlier). He said that he had quit the company, and that another person (''Kelly'') should help me. It has been two weeks, and Kelly does not answer the phone.

Re: Broken Computer Sold To Me

Suggest that you file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (if you have one in NC) and then take the company to Small Claims court, seeking the maximum in damages.
