In California if your child is under the age of 18 years old and on probation and will be on probation until he is 20 are the parents be responsible for the child until they are off probation or until they turn 18.

Whether the child is on probation or not has no effect on your liability for a child under the age of 18 commiting a civil or criminal wrong. You are liable until the child reaches the age of 17. Also, if you lend your motor vechile to someone you know is careless, reckless, then you may be liablle for negligent entrustment.
