Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
In California, I installed security cameras and 2 cameras show both the front and side yard of our house and neighbors. Is legal?

Yes. There is no expectation of privacy in what can readily be seen from outside one's property. If you can see it from your house, your neighbor does not have a privacy interest in it. You cannot, however, electonically enhance your ability to see, such as by using a zoom lens to look into a window.
I agree with Mr. McCormick's response. The simple placement of security cameras to monitor property that is readily seen from your own property is permissible. One must be reasonable about how one uses those camera's, however. So long as the cameras are used solely for the protection of your own property, there should be no problem whatsoever.
