Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
I was called into my universities disciplinary office yesterday "under suspicion of trafficking drugs by an anonymous letter." I went to the meeting and was told that the school doesnt respond to anonymous letters and they were just informing me that one was sent to them about me claiming I was involved with trafficking opium and opium related narcotics. It also stated that I should be expelled from the university for my actions. None of the allegations in the letter are true and I was shocked when the letter mentioned certain things that only my ex of two months and I had discussed. The anonymous letter was clearly from her since it stated these things. I am currently in the process of obtaining the letter that the school received for documentation and am trying to decide whether I am eligible for a restraining order or some other legal action against her. What would be the best legal course of action to take against her in this case?

Your ex-wife libeled you by falsely accusing you of a crime. You can recover general and special damages in a civil action. She will most likely file an anti-SLAPP motion since the lawsuit arises from her communication to the university. You should be able to prevail in the anti-SLAPP by showing falsity and no privileges.
