Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Car broken into on corporate premises--are they liable?

I have a friend who had his car broken into while parked in his corporate parking lot during business hours. He only has minimum liability insurance and is planning to pay for the damages himself. Is the company required by law to compensate the employee in any way for this occurence?

Thanks,

Was there any kind of security system or personnel for the lot? If the lot claimed to be secure then he might be able to make a claim. However, it really depends on the situation and if the company made any claims to the safety of the lot. If it was an open lot that anyone could park in then they are not responsible. It it was a closed lot with posted security or you had to show a pass to get in then they may be liable. It depends greatly on the situation.
