First, you have to act quickly. You only have 30 days to file a written, formal response to the lawsuit. You should consult with an attorney about this immediately! The failure to respond in a timely manner could result in your losing the case entirely! I will be happy to discuss your options.

With regard to defending yourself, you will need to find out what damages are being claimed by the other side, and what they are claiming you did wrong. In other words how was it that they hit your horse? Was your horse on a road where it was not supposed to be. Or, was the driver not where s/he was supposed to be?

Additionally, if the other driver was at fault, you may be able to seek compensation for your horse from him/her.

You need to act on this.

You can call me at 805-494-6557 to discuss this matter.

Not sure. Notify your homeowners insurance.

Re: Car vs Horse

That depends on many factors, such where was the horse when the car hit it. If the horse got out of a fenced pasture and was on a public roadway you are probably liable for the damages.

If you have home owner's or renter's insurance notify the carrier immediately.
