Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

car storage

My car was towed and had to remain in storage. When I went to get my personal belonging out of the car a tow truck ripped the door off my car while I was retrieving the belonging. I was escorted into the storage yard by an employee assigned from the front office. The owner of the tow truck business says it's the employee's responsibility to pay for the damages to my car. Is he right or is it the bussiness owners responsibility?
