Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
Cat bite
What are the regulations in california for a cat bite?
My neighbor has a cat door that her cats get in and out. My cat usually ended up in there with them. On a couple different occassions my cat did scratch her. At first, I told her that I would do anything to help avoid having my cat in her garage including keeping him my garage to ?. She replied that it was no problem and that she has an electronic cat door. She was going to put back the collars on her cats so my cat would stay out of the garage (she fed her cats in the garage). She replied that other cats get into the garage and thats why she bought this type of device. About 3 weeks later a fireman came to my door and said my cat just bite my neighbor and she needed stitches. I ran over there and she told me that she had just gotten my cat off the boat( in the garage) and was caring him thru the house to let him out the front door when he turned on her and bite her on the arm. Before this all happened she knew he was aggressive to her and she still picked him up and tried to carry him 300ft outside? Is it my legal responsibility to pay her bills when she is the one that picked him up?

Re: Cat bite
There are leash laws covering dogs but I am not aware of any thing like it for cats. You would always be liable if there were some negligence on your part but it does not sound like there was. When you pick up a cat you assume the risk it will scratch you.
