Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
Cat fight damage responsibility
I have a neighbor who thinks my cat is beating up her cat. The only witness is my neighbor and her boyfriend. Other neighbors have said her cat is very aggressive, but she claims my cat is the instigator. She has now given me a vet bill for $53 and says my cat hurt her cat in a fight and wants me to pay. I was going to pay just to keep peace in the neighborhood, but if I pay, have I set a precedant and can she sue me in the future if she has more vet bills and I refuse to pay? I'm not sure if I should refuse, or just pay.

Re: Cat fight damage responsibility
I would refuse to pay because you are sending her the message that anytime she has a vet bill you will pay it. Let her show some proof that your cat started the fight and caused the injuries.
