Caught shoplifting and fined 400$, Need advice

I stole key chain from six flags worth 5$, after I left the store, I was apprehended for the act. When they asked me for my I.D., they saw that I had somebody elses season pass in my wallet. They asked me if I used it to get in the park, fearing more trouble than I was already in, I admitted to it. Now they sent me a letter telling me to pay 400$ ! Far more than any damage I caused. Should I pay it? What will happen if I don't.?

Are you serious? You have committed at least two criminal acts, and you are offered an opportunity to simply make a monetary payment, rather than be prosecuted for a crime, and you ask this question?

Do you need to have a criminal record in order to get wise?
