check cashed early resuting in charges

I received a check which I did not cash for some weeks. I talked to the person who wrote the check and he told me to not to cash the check until the end of the month. I mistakenly cashed the check on the 19th of the month. This resulted in overdraft charges when he wrote more checks. Am I responsible for these overdraft charges?
