Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Right to defend allegations by a deponent in a confidentiality agreement

I signed a confidentiality agreement whereby the other party is allowed to disclose in one area only and I cannot in any area.(Stupid now of course.) My question is this: He is now to be deposed in another action and will talk about this subject (X.)Am I allowed to defend myself VS his allegations on X without violating my agreement? Does it violate it if I say that what he said on X is not true, but is this is what happened? Thanks.
