I am defending myself. when filing a case management statement, do I have to meet with the plaintiff first?.

Technically yes. Realistically, no. But you should make some effort to contact the other party/attorney by phone at least, and discuss the issues listed in the CMC statement and try to agree on anything you can.

You don't have to meet them in person. But you should contact them via telephone, e-mail, or by letter to discuss the issues in the case management statement.
