Can I get some sort of payment for having to do this on my day off

If you are not a plaintiff or defendant in the lawsuit, then you are entitled to a flat fee of -- I think -- $35 plus roundtrip mileage. The law's not too generous. You might call the noticing attorney and try to work out a date and time that are better for you.
