Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Doctor/Patient Confidentality

If a patient is in the hospital and receiving shots of Demerol every 4 hours, is it legal for a doctor to have the patient sign legal medical documents that would release his Medical Records/Information to his employers in the state of California?

Re: Doctor/Patient Confidentality

Depends on how much Demerol, doesn't it? Dr. should

know!

Why on earth would the doctor wish to want to have

the employer get his records? Why did the employer

seek them?

An employer might want such records to be able to defend

a possible suit if they were to blame or if the harm was

done on the job.

Perhaps the user of the release (esp. if they knew

about his state of mind when he signed)

is breaking the law and the doctor isn't, I don't know.
