Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Dog Bites Dog

To Whom It May Concern:

The following occurred in Los Angles, California:

In May of 2001, my dog bit a neighbors dog and gave it three small puncture wounds. I told the owner I would take responsibility for the related vet bills.

The first bill was $975.00. I paid that bill.

The second was for antibiotics treating an infection of the surgery site and was $125.00. I paid that bill.

The antibiotics made the dog vomit, so the owner did not give the dog the full course of pills. The owner then took the dog to Europe with her on vacation. The untreated infection worsened and the European vet bill came out to $1,015.00 (American). I have not paid the final bill at this time.

I would like to know if I am obligated by law to pay for the bill incurred in Europe. The bill was due to discontinuing the course of antibiotics; antibiotics for which I paid. I cannot afford the bill and have since stopped making payments. Before I drop off the face of the earth to avoid these rather outrageous expenses, I would appreciate being advised of my legal rights.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kindest regards,

L. M.

Re: Dog Bites Dog

I wouldnt pay it. Normaly you are responsible for anything related to the bite but it sounds like her negligence has complicated the problem so I think that lets you off the hook
