Am I entitled to compensation for expenses incurred for hosting a bridal shower in good faith that I would be the maid of honor and the fired from the position two days after the shower was given?

Unless there was a promise made (and accepted) that you would be paid a particular rate of pay for your services, you would not be entitled to remuneration.
Moreover, typically, such "duties" are done as a favor.
If you entered into a contractual arrangement whereby there was an agreement to pay you for your services, and you were not terminated for cause sufficient to warrant non-payment, you can always resort to suing in Small Claims court. Keep in mind that the maximum jurisdictional amount in Small Claims is $7,500 in most cases.
