Engagement rings

If you give a woman an engagement ring and she breaks off the engagement are you entitled by law to get your ring back from her????

Possibly if you can prove that it was a gift in contemplation of marriage. The woman may claim that it was simply a gift and not an engagement ring.

If the ring was a gift in contemplation of marriage, you are entitled to the return of the ring, or compensation in the amount of its value. In court, you will be required to prove that the ring was exchanged for a promise to marry. This is most often done by the testimony of third party witnesses who were present when you gave your fiance the ring or people she talked to about the engagement.
