Has the (best evidence rule) been repealed in California?

The answer to your question is no. California Evidence Code Sections 1521 and 1523, which delineate the parameters of the best evidence rule, are still good law. Please let me know if our firm can help you with anything else.

Yes it has. The best evidence rule was codified in Evidence Code s. 1500-1511. These sections were repealed in 1998.
The rules related to proving the contents of writing are found in Evidence Code s. 1520-1523.
