Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

false imprisonment

On Sept 14,2000 myself and 3 other patrons were in

a Laundry at 9:40p.m. and the cleaning/janitor comes

arrived to clean the laundry and threatens me with statements of locking me into the laundry if I don't leave the establishment prior to my clothes drying.

I had three dryers occupied with clothing. I was done

with drying my clothing at 10:10p.m. the janitor left the building at 10:05p.m. and locked me in the building without any access of getting out. I knocked on the glass door of the building asking bystanders to call the police to free me from the building, I was freed from the establishment at 12:30a.m. Friday morning. I would like to file a suit

against the business owner on ground of false imprisonment. Please advise.

Re: false imprisonment

I agree with Ed. It seems like a good case that is worth very little. Try small claims court. You could get one or two thousand out of it.

Re: false imprisonment

Sounds like a decent case to me, although I wonder how much you could collect in damages. If you were traumatized by this event then your damages will be higher, but even if you weren't it still may be worth pursuing.
