Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
As everyone knows, the family of beating victim Bryan Stow is suing the Los Angeles Dodgers for millions of dollars as they're holding the Dodgers responsible for Mr. Stow's beating.
My question is this.
Should the Dodgers lose the lawsuit, who pays the millions to Stow's family? The Dodgers? Or does the Dodgers have insurance which covers lawsuits and would their insurance company pay the lawsuit leaving the Dodgers paying nothing?

Almost all insurance policies have deductibles. They undoubtedly have insurance to cover minor accidents in the parking lot, trip and falls, etc. The Dodgers do have their own personal attorney who has handled suits against them for 20+ years. The civil case will likely not go to trial until after the criminal case is resolved. Also, the court system in L.A. is so backed up that it might take 3-5 years after filing before it goes to trial.
You would have to ask the Dodgers what insurance they carry. That's a business decision they make, not a legal question.
