Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

How do I file a No Contact restraining order on someone who is harassing & threatening me in another state?

I am in Los Angeles and the person harassing me is in Las Vegas. She is my boyfriends ex wife and is constantly threatening my boyfriend and I. She is also trying to blackmail us into not seeing each other anymore. Now she is threatening to harass my mother. Legally, is there anything I can do?

The problem is that the ex-wife is in another state. One option is to get an order from a court in Nevada. You will need to talk to an attorney in Nevada about that.

The other option is to get an order from a California court. The California court would have the power to enter that kind of order, but your problems would be ones of service and enforcement. You would also need to register that order with the court in Las Vegas after you obtained it.

I suggest you hire a lawyer to write an appropriate cease-and-desist letter to the ex-wife, which will likely say that you will seek a restraining order and other appropriate relief if the ex-wife does not comply. That sometimes shows a client is serious, and makes the person start to behave. If the letter does not produce the desire result, then you will need to pursue one of the two court actions described above.

I would be happy to talk about this with you if you so desire.
