Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

My friend borrowed my ipod and lost it. We're both under 18 years old. What should I do? Can my mom sue his mother or make her pay for it? Please help.

His mom ought to pay for it. Her homeowners insurance will cover the loss if it is more than the deductible. Theoretically your mom could sue her mom in small claims court, but maybe they can come to an agreement.
