Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
A friend gave me some personal items for a loan and has failed to repay it. I don't have the room for the things and need the money. Can I sell their things to repay the loan?

Was there a written agreement regarding the loan? If so, it depends on what the agreement was. If not, and there was a verbal agreement, that would determine what you could do.
Assuming no agreement of any sort, to protect yourself , you should send the friend a notice via certified mail that he has x amount of days to repay the loan or you will sell the items.
