My daughter bought a entertainment center from a friend who broke up with girlfriend. He stated it was his. 1 mth later the girlfreind called my daughter stated it was hers and she wanted it back. My daughter said fine . come and get it. It has been going on 2 weeks the girl has never come to get it. and my daughter bought another entertainment center. After numberous contact with the girl. my daughter told her she was going to put it outside and she is not responsesible for it anymore. she cant store it. The girl threatened her told her nothing better happen to the furniture. Legally can my daughter put it outside and just give up trying to contact her?

First contact the friend to see what he says as to ownership and who can prove ownership. If he now admits it was not 100% his to sell, he should give your daughter the entire purchase price back and take the furniture to the ex-girlfriend. If he claims he does own all or part of it, write a certified letter to the girl telling her that as ownership is disputed you are still willing to give it to her but if she does not pick it up within 5 days you will either have to charge her storage fees or dispose of it in some reasonable fashion, charging for her time and expenses.
