Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

gaining entrance to a vehicle

I am a college student. I parked my

vehicle in a staff parking space and

had an expired parking permit. Upon

seeing this the public safety officers

gained entrance into my vehicle

without any permission or any kind

of justifiable cause except for the fact

that my permit was expired. Are they

allowed to do this? Thank you.

Re: gaining entrance to a vehicle

No, and if you were criminally charged based on what they found, your lawyer should file a motion to suppress. Do not expect the public defender to do this.

I presume you had nothing showing you were a staff member and there were signs up saying the vehicle would be towed. If they entered your car to make it easier to tow the vehice away, then you are not going to be able to convince anyone you should be compensated
