Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

My ex girlfriend and I got a dog together and then broke up. Can she keep the dog from me? Can I get in legal trouble for taking the dog?

Yes she can, and yes you can.

If the two of you can't work it out about the dog, neither of you deserve the dog. Give it up for adoption; it deserves a better life than being used by two self-absorbed owners.
