Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
a group of people victims of fraud filed cases with the court against the company,,,each one at the beginning got their own case #...later own the court created a masted and consolidated all the cases for all purpose ...make it easier for court to find a judgment ...each victim got their single judgment document with the original case number and master case number printed on the document. this people is applying for government indemnification or compensation...suppose they have 5000 for each business transaction...the government is asking why the multiple cases should not be considered one transaction?
1 Answer from Attorneys
The cases were ordered consoldiated not because they stemmed from a single transaction but rather from the same type of behavior by a defendant causing similiar damages to the various plainitffs so treating it as a class action was appropriate. But you may have to provide more information to the government.
