Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
Harassment by neighborhood teens (When Teens Attack)
Last year, the neighborhood teens, ages 13 - 15 took to throwing water balloons at our home. When one landed IN MY HOUSE, I escorted them to their homes and informed their parents.
This year, they' re picking fruit from one of my neighbors' trees and throwing them, causing a ruckus as they strike the roof and roll off, in one case striking my vehicle and that of a neighbors'. Yesterday, I went to their homes and informed their parents. They promised to put a stop to it, but they have a poor track record, and I don't want to wait until they start with rocks and bottles.
What are the legal terms used to describe their actions?
What can I do to (hopefully) put an end to it once and for all?

It is called a nuisance. Best to advise the parents they are financially responsible for the damages. Do this in writing. You could file a police report, and they will talk to the parents, but I would wait on that one. Perhaps remind the parents again that if they do not discipline their kids, you will have to - the police report, damage claims, etc. Take these neighbors off your Christmas card list.

Thank you for your inquiry.
There are several ways in which this conduct could be categorized, including but not limited to vandalism, trespass to land (because the physical object is crossing your property line), trespass to chattels (because of damage to moveable property), among others.
I would suggest two things: 1) be sure to give the parents an appropriate opportunity to correct this conduct, especially if they are making a good faith effort; and 2) document what is occurring and document your communications with the parents so that you can establish the efforts you have made to resolve these disturbing circumstances. If the conduct continues, I would notify the police and request that they communicate to the teens how serious this conduct is and what the consequences could be. Requesting that the police exercise their authority is also an option down the road, if necessary. Another option is to have a legal demand letter written to the parents in order to communicate that your rights are being violated, your patience are running thin, and if forced to take legal action, you will.
Best of luck. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally if I can be of assistance.

This is intended as a supplement to the answer by Mr. Smith. Taking the fruit off the trees is a theft. Hitting the cars and homes with the fruit could be charged as a misdemeanor destruction of property. If the problem continues a letter from an attorney may be helpful, or a complaint to the police department.
Good luck

videotape them doing it and call the police and make a citizen's arrest.
