i came home and stapled on my apartment door was notice to vacate by the sheriffs department

I'm sorry to hear that. Please provide the rest of the facts: Are you current on your rent? In most cases by the time the sheriff staples a Notice to Vacate on your door you should have received a 3-day notice followed by a summons and complaint (an unlawful detainer lawsuit). Did you get these documents, or is this the first you've heard that you're being evicted? If this is really the first you are hearing about this, you can go to court -immediately- to challenge the eviction. I would like to hear from you. If you already received a 3-day notice, UD lawsuit, etc., and you merely decided to blow off the court case, then get a truck and move out before they change the locks and you lose all your belongings.
