Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Inexperienced landscaper

I hired a landscaper to put in grass and irrigation. sprinklers don't work and grass is dying, plus when I water the grass one section floods. I don't think he has a license. What can I do?

Re: Inexperienced landscaper

You can refuse to pay, or, if you already paid him, sue him for breach of contract. He can't defend the lawsuit if he's unlicensed. Then, get another contractor to correct the mistakes and put his cost in your lawsuit. Good Luck.

Re: Inexperienced landscaper

I concur with the advice previously given, but I would add that this person may have ocmmitted a misdemeanor if he was unlicensed and the value of the contract exceeded $500. I would consider filing a policy report and/or reporting this person to the Contractor's State License Board. The CSLB website is www.cslb.ca.gov.
