Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Information on Slander

If there is a criminal case pending, no trial yet, nothing that stated a defendant did what the police claim they did and they are waiting trial for the incident. If the local news station reports that the defendant did do these things. They did not use wording like " the suspect" or "alleged charges" but flat out says the person did this, with out a trial and the person is only charged with it and has not been found guilty of any crime, can the news station be sued for slander?

Thank you...

Re: Information on Slander

They can be sued and they may or may not win. Truth is a defense to defamation. if he is convicted they are off the hook, otherwise they might have to convince a civil jury the charges are true.
